Catherine “Cathy” Mae Staroska (Howe), resident of North Platte, NE, passed away on August 29, 2023, 72 years old. Cathy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; who was a cherished community member, and wonderful friend.
Cathy was born to Edwin and Ruth Howe (Fitzner) on July 18,1951 in Hot Springs, SD. She grew up in Custer, SD where she graduated from Custer High School in 1969. After graduation, she entered the Dietitian program at Union College in Lincoln Nebraska. She received her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree in 1982 and Associates Degree in Nursing in 1995.
Cathy married Donald “Don” E. Staroska on 22 September 1982 in North Platte, NE uniting their families. Cathy had many interests in her life. She loved the Lord and actively participated in the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was the lead Deaconess. She was musically talented playing the accordion, piano, organ and violin. She spent her life fiercely devoted to the care and quality of Senior Citizens starting in Linden Court and ending her Career at the North Platte Agency on Aging. Cathy volunteered with many organizations of which her greatest affection was English Setters, fostering dogs from Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Don Staroska; Siblings: Vickie Kaufman, Chuck Howe, Laurie Howe and Jenny Tullier, Children: LTC Amy Kylar, spouse Jefferson, Rhonda Smith N.P, Stepchildren Lee Staroska, Spouse Angie, Diana Stoner, spouse Larry Sr., Joe Staroska, spouse Wendy. Grandchildren: Jamie Sinclare, Benjamin Kylar, Step-grandchildren: Zach Kylar, Sydney Kylar, Brandy and Rebecca Smith, Larry Jr. Stoner, Kaylynn Stoner, Greg Stoner (Brianna), Brittany Hinkle, Holly (Josh) Motsch, Jenna (Christian) Blundell, Jacob Staroska and step-great grandchild Jackson, Lillian, Everett Hinkle, Stanley Motsch, Hunter and Emmett Blundell.
She is preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Ruth Howe, and grandson’s Alex Staroska and John Kylar.
