Bettie C. Kirkpatrick, age 86 of Broken Bow, died Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Pastor John Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the family greeting friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers. Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Bettie Clair Kirkpatrick was born on January 20, 1937, at Omaha, NE to Warren and Dora (Lamb) Huss.
Bettie attended school in York, Holdrege, and Omaha. She graduated from York High School. As a young adult Bettie worked at the local drugstore, Boyer Drug Store as a “Soda Jerk”.
Bettie was united in marriage to David Kirkpatrick on January 3, 1955, at York, NE. The family farmed near York with David’s parents. After the children were all school age Bettie worked at the local JC Penney’s in York.
On June 1, 1974, the Kirkpatrick family moved to a ranch they had purchased near Anselmo, Nebraska. Bettie worked in Broken Bow at Fine Things for many years. On November 1, 2007, Dave and Bettie sold the ranch and moved into Broken Bow. Dave passed away on February 10, 2010. Bettie continued to make her home in Broken Bow until her passing.
Through the years, Bettie was involved in the York American Legion Auxiliary and was a Mother Singer. She was a member of the New Helena Country and especially enjoyed their outings and being with the ladies on their adventures. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, collecting recipes, cookbooks, and playing solitaire. She greatly loved her family and especially the grandchildren.
Bettie is survived by two sons, Steve Kirkpatrick of Broken Bow, Bert (Bobbi) Kirkpatrick of Broken Bow, and a daughter Cindy (Scott) Naber of York, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a half-sister Kathy Warriner of Hastings, a special niece Debbie Damrow of Hastings, brother-in-law Ben (Ann) Kirkpatrick of York, and special friends Velma and Vern Oatman.
Bettie was preceded in death by her husband Dave, parents Warren and Dora Huss, daughter-in-law Karen Kirkpatrick, stepmother Esther Huss, and half-sister Jane Van Horn.
