News Release NP Public Schools

Due to the frigid temperatures, North Platte Public Schools will have a 10:00 a.m. start on February 16, 2021.  We ask that students not be dropped off at their building until 9:30 a.m. or later.  There will be no morning pre-school, practices, or school activities prior to 10:00 a.m.

Bus Schedule:

SPED - 9:00 a.m.

Middle School - 9:30 a.m.

In extreme temperatures, The National Weather Service recommends:

Dress For The Cold:

Wear layers of loose-fitting and lightweight clothing. Trapped air between the layers will insulate you.

  1. If doing strenuous outdoor activities, avoid wearing cotton.  Once wet, cotton takes a long time to dry
And will sap your heat. Use synthetic fabrics that wick moisture from your skin and dry quickly.
  2. Outer garments should be tightly woven, water repellent, and hooded.
  3. Wear a hat, because 40% of your body heat can be lost from your head.
  4. Cover your mouth to protect your lungs from extreme cold.
  5. Mittens, snug at the wrist, are better than gloves.
  6. Try to stay dry and out of the wind.

When Traveling:

Always prepare for the worst!

  1. Your vehicle's winter survival kit should include warm clothes, boots, blankets, a flashlight with extra batteries, candy bars, or cereal bars.  Here is a good list from ReadyWisconsin.
  2. Always carry a charged cell phone and tell others about your travel plans.
