Nebraska inmate hospitalized after attack by other inmate

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - An inmate at a prison in Lincoln has been hospitalized after being attacked and stabbed by another inmate, prison officials said.

The attack happened Wednesday in the Lincoln Correctional Center's woodshop, according to a news release by the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.

The inmate was attacked from behind by another inmate, hit several times in the head with a large metal bar clamp and was stabbed several times with a screwdriver, the release said. The injured inmate is in a Lincoln hospital with serious injuries.

Staff members were able to restrain and disarm the attacker, officials said. The names of the inmates involved have not been released.

The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation into the attack, the release said.
