Rodney Wayne Smith was born on June 23, 1954 in McCook, NE to Raymond and Donna (Deardoff) Smith. The Lord took him home to heaven on May 17, 2024 after battling Parkinson's Disease.

Rod graduated from McCook High School in 1972, Frontier School of the Bible in 1975, and the Electrician course at Mid Plains Community College in 1978. He wore a variety of vocational hats including electrician, ranch hand, janitor, lawn service, handi-bus driver, maintenance, Cabela's truck loader, and valet. These jobs took the family to several places in Nebraska and Idaho.

Rod accepted Christ at the age of 17 and loved serving the Lord at Bible camps, Sunday School, Vacation Bible Schools, and was always thinking of ways to help others, whether shoveling snow, doing yard work, installing ceiling fans, or giving financially. And he loved to tease!

Rod married his sweetheart, Nancy Moore, on March 1, 1977. The Lord grew their family with Wyatt (Julie) Smith, Kady Smith, Kyla Smith, Karissa (Christopher) Johnson, also two honorary children, Steven Ehrig and Rosie Rosier, and five grandchildren, Kate Smith, Noah Smith, Temperance Johnson, Freedom Johnson, and Jedediah Johnson.

He also leaves behind his brothers, Colin (Linda) Smith and Dan (Nicky) Smith, in-laws Roger and Peggy Webb, Lonnie and Claire Moore, David and Marilyn Moore, Tim and Michelle Lytle, in addition to a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Celebration of life will be held May 25, 2024 at 2pm at the Bethel Church Quad Room at 2700 W Philip Ave, North Platte, NE.

Memorials can be given to the Chick Mission Fun at chick.com, Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission, or Lincoln Christian School, Lincoln, NE.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
