Louis Gomez, 84, of Lexington passed away on December 29, 2023, at Kearney Regional Medical Center.

Louie was born on September 7, 1939, in Gothenburg, NE to Primo and Estefania (Martinez) Gomez.  He was the 7th of 8 children. His family moved to Lexington when he was a small child and he attended Lexington Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1957. After high school he enlisted in the Army and served two years and was sent to Korea until he became very ill and was honorably discharged.

Upon his return to Lexington, he worked various jobs including truck driver, Cornland Dressed Beef and IBP/Tyson, where he retired. He married Vicki Cross and was blessed with four children. They later divorced and Louie raised the four rambunctious children alone. He also became a ‘bonus dad’ to the many kids that hung out at his house while his kids were growing up. You could usually find him mowing or watering his lawn until his health forced him to give it up. He loved spending time with his family. He was also well known for talking your ear off with his many stories. He loved to joke and was never without a smart a** comment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Danny Perez, Marcos Gomez, Margarito Gomez, sister, Marina Gomez, brother-in-law, Fred Keslar, and sisters-in-law, Bernita Perez and Anita Gomez.

He is survived by his children Michael (Melanie) Gomez of Lexington, NE, Vic (Christy) Gomez of Johnson Lake, NE, Janelle Gomez (Curt Embree) of Lincoln, NE, and Brad Gomez of Mississippi. Two sisters Helen Keslar of North Platte, NE and Frances Gomez of Lexington, NE.

15 Grandchildren, Brandon (Michel) Williams, Dray (Taylor Moran) Gomez, Shai (Ashley) Nielsen, Lindsey Gomez, Cheyanne (Jacob) Liston, Madison Gomez, Katie Gomez, Kaylee Gomez, Jackson Gomez, Sam Gomez, Jade Embree, Octavia Hampsen, Skyler (Maija) Werger, Stormi Werger, and Sierra Werger; 7 Great Grandchildren, Josslyn Williams, Nico Gomez, Aria Nielsen, Jeremiah Werger, Jace Werger, Lucy Rios, Stella Rios and one on the way;  And many nieces, nephews, and extended family.  Also, a special thank you to Jeff and Cindy Boesch for always being there for Louis.
