D. Bryan Leggott, age 65, of Trenton, Nebraska passed away at the Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska on January 29, 2021. Bryan was born in Lexington, Nebraska on November 25, 1955 to Donald K. and Alice J. (McKim) Leggott. He graduated from Elwood High School in the spring of 1973 and continued his education at Hastings College.
Bryan’s passion for helping people never stopped. He worked for the Village of Stratton as the police chief in 1979. He graduated from the Police Academy in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1980 and continued to work as police chief up until he was elected for Sheriff of Hitchcock County in 1987, a position he held for 34 years.
On August 16, 1988 he was united in marriage to Kelly Davis of McCook, Nebraska. They got married in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They built a beautiful life and had 2 children together.
In his off times Bryan enjoyed camping and fishing at either Ogallala Lake or Swanson Reservoir. He enjoyed reading old war books, studying history, and keeping busy. He could fix anything and knew how to get things done right. He loved his family so much, he always put them first. If there was something his family wanted to do, he made sure to find a way. He never complained about himself or talked bad about anyone, even when he could. He always found the good in people and tried to explain why, even when we didn’t understand. He was a selfless man with a kind soul who will be missed very much. Until we meet again. You are so loved.
He is survived by his wife Kelly Leggott of Trenton, NE; sons: Jarrod Leggott of McCook, NE and Aaron Leggott of Trenton, NE; daughter: Amanda Leggott of Lincoln, NE; two grandchildren: Lucinda Leggott of McCook, NE and Adrian Leggott of Lincoln, NE; parents: Donald and Alice Leggott of Kearney, NE; brother: Dwight (Roxanne) Leggott of Lincoln, NE.
Visitation for Bryan will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Steve Bales officiating. Burial will take place at the Elwood Cemetery in Elwood, Nebraska on February 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM following the Service. Memorial may be left in Bryan’s name at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel.
