The North Platte Police Department made seven DUI arrests and issued 59 citations during a traffic enforcement campaign focused on impaired driving and other traffic violations.
The department participated in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign from August 20 through September 7.
During the enforcement period, officers issued 213 traffic warnings and 59 citations covering a total of 92 traffic offenses.
Seven people were arrested for DUI or alcohol-related offenses, including one person arrested for a felony third-offense DUI. Officers also made two arrests for carrying a concealed weapon violations, one arrest for possession of a controlled substance and 23 arrests on outstanding warrants.
Speeding was among the most common traffic violations during the campaign, with 14 drivers cited. Three drivers were charged with reckless or careless driving, while 10 were cited for violating traffic control devices.
Officers also cited 24 drivers for driving under suspension or operating without a valid driver's license. Another 23 drivers were cited for registration or insurance violations, including 15 for no valid registration and eight for no proof of insurance.
Two people were cited for having open containers of alcohol. Officers also issued five citations for illegal turns and one for exhibition of speed.
The North Platte Police Department thanked local residents for helping make the Labor Day holiday a safe one.
