Union Pacific coal train derails near Gothenburg Sunday morning, crews on scene cleaning up

Gothenburg, Neb. - An eastbound loaded coal Union Pacific train derailed Sunday near Gothenburg.  

According to Union Pacific spokesperson Meg Siffring, the eastbound train derailed Sunday morning around 9:25 am. 16 coal cars derailed as the result of the accident. No injuries were reported.

The derailment may cause delays for trains heading east and westbound. Siffring states the clean-up process is underway, and the cause of the derailment is under investigation.
