North Platte police investigate death of 10-year-old girl

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-North Platte police are investigating the death of a North Platte girl.

According to police, at around 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, officers and North Platte Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a female, 10, who was unresponsive at a residence in the 700 block of East Philip Ave.

Police said officers arrived and immediately began life-saving efforts. Those efforts were then continued by rescue personnel.

The girl was transported to Great Plains Health, where she was pronounced deceased at 1:01 a.m.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary information indicates that foul play is not involved.

Police extended condolences to the family and asked that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

Statement from North Platte Public Schools

It is with great sadness that we notify you of the death of one of our students.

This student is identified as a 10-year-old member of North Platte Public Schools since kindergarten and has just completed her fourth-grade year at Lincoln Elementary.

The investigation surrounding her death is ongoing; however, foul play is not suspected. 

Licensed crisis counselors will be available for staff and students tomorrow, June 25, 2021, at Lincoln Elementary, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Please note due to FERPA; we are not sharing this student's name with anyone who is not directly involved in the active investigation. The NPPS crisis team has been deployed, and students who were friends with the student are being cared for.
