Veda Charlene Walz, 85, of Stapleton, passed away February 22, 2023 at Great Plains Health.  She was born October 29, 1937 to C.C. Felix and Vera (Wilmoth) Deterding in Arnold.

Charlene moved from Arnold to Stapleton as a child and resided there all her life.  She graduated from Stapleton High School with the class of 1956.   Charlene enlisted in the United States Army and served from June 1957 to June 1959.  She married Leo Walz on April 20, 1960 and they had three children: Jeana, Denise and Rex.
Charlene was a stay-at-home mother where she raised her family.  She loved to cook and bake and volunteered at the blood mobile and elections.  Charlene was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and American Legion Post #324, where she was secretary for many years.  She loved the outdoors and tending to her flowers.  She was proud of her service to her country.  She loved to see and visit with all of her grandchildren, especially before their ball games.

Survivors include children, Jeana (Rex) Hanna of Stapleton, Denise (Tony) Smith of North Platte, Rex (Kristie) Walz of Stapleton; grandchildren, Tenille (Jeff) Boyd, Derek (Todd Lewandowski Jr.) Hanna, Sawyer (Alecia) Hanna, Trevor Hanna, Toby (Dani) Smith, Tasha Smith, Jon (Molly) Walz, Todd (Lyndi) Walz, Luke (Molly) Walz; eleven great grandchildren; siblings, Duane Deterding of North Platte, Myron (Sherry) Deterding of Omaha, Darrell (Becky) Deterding of Springview; numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Charlene was preceded in death by husband, Leo Walz; parents, Felix and Vera Deterding; step-mother, Marie Deterding; parents-in-law, Carl and Regina Walz; brothers-in-law, Vincent and Virgil; sister-in-law-Susie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 27, 2023, at St. John’s Catholic Church with Reverend Thomas Gudipalli as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.  Christian Wake Services will be held 7:00 P.M., Sunday, February 26, 2023, at St. John’s Catholic Church.  Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
