Darrill Lee Crouch, age 85, of West Des Moines, IA (formerly of Broken Bow) passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Arbor Springs Dementia Care in West Des Moines, IA.
He was born on March 15, 1939, to Merrill and Marie (Nixon) Crouch in Arnold, Nebraska. The family lived on a farm near Arnold until moving to their ranch in Blaine County in 1944. The family moved to Burwell in 1959. Darrill attended grade school in Blaine County and high school in Taylor, NE graduating with the class of 1957.
On June 26, 1960, he married Shirley Hesselgesser in Burwell, and to this union two children were born: a son, Douglas Ray, and daughter, Teresa Lynn. In 1966, the family moved to Broken Bow where Darrill worked for Becton-Dickinson, retiring in 1999. Having grown up on a ranch and working for ranchers in his early years, Darrill always had a love for raising cattle. After retiring from B-D, he raised cattle full-time. For several years he raised and sold herd bulls. As his health began to fail, he fully retired in 2020. ln November 2023, Darrill and Shirley moved to West Des Moines, IA to seek skilled dementia care and be closer to family.
Darrill's family was always very important to him, and he loved every opportunity he had to spend time with them. He is survived by his wife Shirley of West Des Moines, IA, son: Douglas (Kaylene) Crouch of West Des Moines, IA, daughter: Teresa Lloyd of Cary, NC; grandchildren: Charissa (David) Sabra of Pleasant Garden, NC, Daniel (Caroline) Lloyd of Smyrna, GA, Elijah Lloyd of Savannah, GA, Lydia Lloyd of Winston-Salem, NC, Katharine Lloyd of Cary NC, Elisabeth Lloyd of State College, PA, Evangeline Lloyd of Cary, NC, Sophia Lloyd of Raleigh, NC, Brianne (Matt) Broderick of West Des Moines, IA, and Jessica Crouch of West Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren: Gabriel & Jubilee Sabra and Michael & Emilia Lloyd.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Merrill and Marie Crouch, and twin brother, Donald.
Memorial Services will be held on June 15, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE. Memorials are suggested to Custer Care of Broken Bow. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 14th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family greeting at the time at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
