Lyla Lee (Senff) Slack, age 79, of Gothenburg, Nebraska joined the Angels on February 28, 2024.

Lyla was born on August 3, 1944 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Loup City, Nebraska to Clifford and Evelyn (Peterson) Senff.

Lyla grew up around the Litchfield, Nebraska area, although starting school in a country school south of Gibbon, the family moved back to the Litchfield area where she graduated from Litchfield High School in 1962.  Lyla was a member of the Methodist Church.

Lyla worked on her parents' farm until after graduation.  Lyla worked from 1964 to 1968 in ASCS Office in Loup City.  In 1967, she married John Slack in Kearney, Nebraska.  They made their first home in Mason City, then moving to Ansley, and to this union two children were born, Johnnie and Dawn.  Lyla worked at the school, ran a cleaning business, and was the Director of Housing Authority.  Lyla was the leader of Jr. Auxiliary, did Style Shows, Musicals, went to garage sales, and the senior center.  They moved to Gothenburg in 2000, where she worked at Gothenburg Hospital and Hilltop Estates.

Lyla loved, cared for, and enjoyed her family.  Lyla & John enjoyed watching them grow into the people they are.  Johnnie married Nancy Workman and to this union Roy was born.  Dawn married Scott West, and Lane & Cort were born to this marriage.  Her family meant so much to her and all the laughs and fun times they shared.  She was truly blessed.  Survivors also include her sister, Elline Evans; brother Clifford Senff; and brother-in law Gaspar Covarrubias; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Lyla has enjoyed extended families on both sides, and has kept in close contact with family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Vicki Covarrubias; and a niece, Paula Evans.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Mason City Cemetery in Mason City, Nebraska.

Memorials may be sent to the family for later designation.
