Shirley Jean Junker (1933-2020)

Shirley Jean Junker, age 87, of Indianola, Nebraska passed away peacefully on October 12, 2020 at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte, Nebraska. She was blessed to be able to be with her granddaughter and talk with her family in her final hours. 

Shirley was born in Torrington, Wyoming on August 8, 1933 to Walter W.  and Rosella Fern Day.  Shirley grew up in McCook, Nebraska where her father worked for the railroad.  

In 1950, Shirley married Willian (Bill) Potts of Indianola and together they raised seven children.  They started their family in Cambridge, Nebraska and then moved to Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, and eventually back to Indianola. 

 In 1996, Shirley married Thomas Junker of Indianola.  

Shirley enjoyed music and frequently spoke of tap dancing and singing in her youth. She loved to talk about Jesus, her family, and her pets. Shirley regularly attended McCook Christian Church and enjoyed bringing treats to the children.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Fern Day; brother, Harold Day; sister, Elaine Potts; husbands, William (Bill) Potts and Thomas Junker; daughters, Linda Mustion and Diane Nash; and son-in-law, Wesley Nash.   

Shirley is survived by daughters, Kay (Larry) Brew of Austin, TX, Judy (Randy) Ekx of Kersey, CO, Cindy Schluckebier, of Bartley, NE; sons, Bill Potts of Kersey, CO, Walter (Judy) Potts of Stillwater, MN; and son-in-law, Richard Mustion of Hershey, NE.  Shirley is also survived by her grandchildren, Candi (Bill) Burrows, Tim (Renee) Miller, Tonya (David) Nielson, Tiffany (Tyson) Dilka, Chantz (Lindsay) Nash, Jessica (David) McKay, Amanda Snide, Amanda (Michael) Daniels, Sammi Potts, Ashley (Seth) Saf, Sophie Schluckebier and 18 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Indianola, Nebraska with Kyle Dellevoet, officiating.
