Annice Mae Weidner (1924-2021)

Annice Mae Weidner of Culbertson, Nebraska passed away February 16, 2021, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege, Nebraska. She was 96 years old. Annice was born May 23, 1924 in Lancaster County, Nebraska at the home of her parents east of Kramer, Nebraska. She was the fifth child of six children born to Fred and Katie (Schlichtemeier) Kattau and the last remaining grandchild of Franz and Kathrina Schlichtemeier. She was baptized on June 8, 1924 at her parent’s home and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church, Kramer, Nebraska. She attended St. John Parochial School (District #72) all eight years, graduating in 1938.

She was married to Herman C. Weidner on April 6, 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church, Kramer. They set up housekeeping on a farm southwest of Culbertson and farmed their entire life. They were blessed with two children.

Annice took an active role in their farming operation. She worked side by side with Herman planting crops and tending the cattle. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors. It was always a happy day when the wild turkeys returned for their summer visit. Before glaucoma robbed her of her eyesight, she enjoyed watching the birds come to the bird feeder. She kept a meticulous yard with beautiful flowers and grew a big garden. During the winter months she enjoyed appliqueing quilts and embroidery work. She made two sequin/bead calendars every year for 30 years. She also enjoyed growing African violets.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman on July 29, 2014; parents, Fred and Katie Kattau; brothers, Freddie, Raymond, and Dewayne Kattau; sisters, Wilhelmina Kattau, LaVerne (Elmer) Wendelin; brothers-in-law, Carl A. (Blanche) Weidner, Frank Weidner; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Herbert) Ketelsen.

Annice is survived by daughter, Marilyn Weidner and son, Ron Weidner; sisters-in-law, LaVerna “Kate” Kattau, sister-in-law, Olga (Frederick) Weidner, nieces, Diane Gropp, Carleen Andersen, Denise Slama, and Deb Ourada; nephews, Bill Weidner, Russell Weidner, Dennis Kattau, Doug Kattau.

Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, February 21, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. with the family present from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Culbertson Cemetery with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating.
