August 26, 2026 (Seward, Neb.) — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested one person after pursuing a stolen delivery van on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon, NSP was notified that a delivery van had been reported stolen out of Omaha. A trooper located the van as it was traveling westbound on Interstate 80, just west of Lincoln. The trooper attempted a traffic stop near mile marker 388, but the driver of the van refused to yield, causing a pursuit to ensue.
During the pursuit, the driver drove on the shoulder to pass other vehicles multiple times. Near mile marker 385, the van struck the passenger side of a semi while attempting to pass it on the shoulder, but it continued fleeing westbound. The driver then exited I-80 and turned northbound onto Matzke Highway, at mile marker 382.
After approximately 2 miles, the trooper successfully performed a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the van to a stop. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.
The driver, Roberto Soto, 24, of Omaha, was arrested for theft by unlawful taking $5,000+, willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, DUI .15+, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and numerous traffic violations. He was lodged in Seward County Jail.
