Sterling, Colo – A career night from Nariah Golden helps North Platte take down Northeastern Junior College on the road, 70-65.
Nariah Golden posted a career high 27 points to accompany her one steal. Nevaeh Golden added 14 points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field, while Zaily Mazarin chipped in 11 points and grabbed four rebounds.
“I am proud of the team and their fight tonight,” said head coach Jeff Thurman. “Our effort defensively in the fourth quarter after the media timeout won us the game.”
The Knights had a strong start in the first quarter, but the Plainswomen’s Bella Peterson answered from long range to trigger a 12-0 run. The Knights offense came to life in the closing stages to cut the deficit to three at the end of the first quarter, 19-16.
A back-and-forth battle took place during the second quarter, as the lead changed hands four times. Northeastern capitalized in the final three minutes with a 6-3 spurt to take a 32-29 lead into the halftime break.
A 13-2 run allowed the Plainswomen to extend their lead to nine by the end of the third quarter. Nariah Golden opened the fourth by connecting from long range to ignite a 14-0 run, which helped North Platte regain the lead. The Knights continued to fight off the Plainswomen down the stretch to close out the win.
North Platte (9-8) returns to road action on Friday against Trinidad State College. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside the Scott Gym in Trinidad, Colo.
