Larry Gene Montross, 81, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away August 4, 2024 at his home in North Platte. He was born March 18, 1943 in North Platte to Erma and Junior Montross. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1961. While in high school he was a proud member of FFA where he served as an Officer. After high school he attended Colorado State University for one year. He went on to ride and exercise racehorses at various racetracks, Aquaduct Racetrack in Queens, New York and Hazel Park in Michigan just to name a few.
He married Linda Ann Fleecs on August, 6, 1966. They made their home on East State Farm Road. In 1977 they built the home of their dreams, a log home. They had two girls, Jodi Ann and Kelly Jean. Larry was very involved as a 4-H leader for the Riders of the Blue Sage, School Board member for Sioux Look School, Extension Office Board Member, member of the Cattleman’s Association and in the Army Reserves.
Larry worked 24 years at Birdwood Products then went to work for Farmland Industries/Land-O-Lakes as a Feedlot Specialist. He was very proud of his involvement with the cattle industry and made many friends throughout the years.
He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter, Kelly (Mark) Timmons; granddaughters, Cortney (Brad) Wright, Justy (Geremy) Gortemaker; grandsons, Nolan Timmons, Eli Timmons; great-grandchildren, Beckett Wright, Trace Wright; son-in-law, Garth Bullington; sister, Judy Mullen, his dog, Jake; special friends, Dave and Lisa Josten, Monte and Twila Madsen; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Jodi; parents; grandparents; aunt and uncle, Bobbie (Lester) Stenger; cousin, Don Stenger.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 16, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, North Platte, with Father Vidya Sagar Arikotla as Celebrant. Rosary will be at 9:30 prior to the service. Following mass lunch will be served at the church. Inurnment will be at Plainview Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Book signing will be from 9-5, Thursday, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
