North Platte, NE – On Saturday, June 7, the American Legion PR Halligan Post 163 hosted its Second Annual American Legion Heroes March, a powerful and growing event dedicated to raising awareness for PTSD and mental health challenges faced by veterans, first responders, and healthcare workers. The event began at 8:00 a.m. with an opening ceremony that set a reflective and unifying tone for the day.
Jason Bayne, incoming Commander of Post 163, delivered a heartfelt speech emphasizing the importance of the march in bringing attention to the mental health struggles faced not only by military veterans, but also by those on the front lines in our own communities; first responders and healthcare workers. Bayne highlighted the American Legion’s national Be the One mission, which encourages everyone to ask, listen, and reach out to someone who may be struggling, with the goal of preventing suicide and promoting connection. He thanked all who participated for standing in solidarity and supporting this vital cause.
Race Director John Miles also spoke during the opening ceremony, recognizing the strength of the community and the dedication of volunteers and supporters who made the event possible.
This year’s American Legion Heroes March saw a record turnout, with 124 registered participants who marched or rucked together in honor of those fighting invisible battles every day.
