Alice Faye (Macy) Kasson was born September 12, 1941, to Rex and Estel (Hoppas) Macy. She was raised with her older sister, Phyllis, six miles south of Oberlin, KS until 1949, when her family moved to Danbury, Nebraska where her father farmed three miles northeast of town. She graduated at age 16 with Danbury High School’s last senior class in 1958, and attended McCook Community College, earning an associate degree in Elementary Education. By age 18 she was teaching school in Paxton, NE.
Alice married (Terry) Joe Kasson on December 18, 1960, and shortly after that Joe received his draft notice. He chose to enlist and serve an extra year so Alice could be with him and eventually she caught up with him in Germany. During their time overseas Alice taught for the Department of Defense schools. Returning to the United States they brought home two cuckoo clocks and their first child, Lisa.
Alice and Joe began their home in Wilsonville, and their two sons, Gregg and Kirk, were born in the next few years. In 1973, they purchased a farmstead, the former H. H. Letson home, where they raised their family and lived out the rest of their 62 years of marriage. She partnered with Joe in their farming endeavors, listing “farmwife” as her occupation, and she volunteered in many ways in the local community. Alice was a member of the Wilsonville Baptist-Christian Church, the Double-8 club, the Baptist Women’s group, the election board, and supported the children’s school and 4-H endeavors. She was active in church work, supporting the White Cross, the Haven House, and organizing Bible School for several years. One of her favorite passions was reading, and she supported the local library for many years.
In November of 2023 she moved into the Heritage Plaza retirement home in Cambridge, NE, and she passed away, May 17, 2024, at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 5 days.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her in-laws, Wayne and Bernice Kasson, her sister Phyllis and husband Doran Moyer, her infant brother, Gene Allen Macy, a sister-in-law, Barbara Hyke, and a nephew, Joe Moyer. Surviving her are her children, Lisa (Marc) Kasson-Bauer, Hawley, MN, Gregg (Karen) Kasson, Henderson, NV, Kirk (Kim) Kasson, Almena, KS, and four grandchildren, Ellie Bauer (Dan Wexler), Will Bauer (Kelsey Linzell), Macy (Kat) Kasson, and Micah (Carter) Leibbrandt, and Joe’s sister and her husband, Mary and Larry Alexander.
