ICYMI: North Platte Police responds to shooting on N. Walnut

North Platte, Neb. - At approximately 10:13 AM, police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 1016 N. Walnut.  During the initial response, a second caller reported that a vehicle ran into a parked car in the 300 block of E. 10th St. and the driver was slumped over the steering wheel.

Upon arrival at 1016 N. Walnut, responding officers learned that a 36-year-old male had been shot and left the residence prior to police arrival to seek medical treatment.  The victim lost consciousness and was determined to be the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident reported in the 300 block of E. 10th St.  The victim was taken to Great Plains Health by ambulance.  The suspect had fled the scene of the shooting prior to police arrival, and officers disseminated a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving to all law enforcement agencies serving our area.

The suspect was contacted in the parking lot of 705 N. Jeffers St. along with his girlfriend and 18-month-old daughter.  The suspect’s vehicle was parked in the parking lot.    Both adults were detained, and the child was taken into protective custody.  

The suspect’s girlfriend is related to one of the residents living at 1016 N. Walnut.  She arrived in town, within the last couple weeks, with her boyfriend, Daveantae Booker. On Saturday morning, an argument broke out between the visiting couple and the victim who lives at 1016 N. Walnut.  The argument escalated into a physical confrontation between the victimcand suspect.  After the physical altercation ended, 23-year-old Daveantea Booker retrieved what is believed to be a 9mm pistol and shot the victim in the chest.

Daveantae Booker, of Evansville, IN, has been arrested for First Degree Assault (Class II Felony) and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony (Class IC Felony).  He was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The victim has life threatening injuries and will be transported to another medical facility for a higher level of care.

This information is being released at an early stage in the investigation.  Search warrants are being sought for the residence at 1016 N. Walnut and the suspect’s vehicle.  Police will be on scene throughout the day as searches are conducted and interviews continue.
