Deloyt Allen Young, 83, long-time resident of North Platte, NE passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

He was born on November 20, 1938 in Wellfleet, NE the son of Jesse William and Geraldine L. (Johnson) Young.
Deloyt graduated from North Platte High School class of 1956 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves while in high school from 1954-56.  He then went on to honorably serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and Vietnam War from 1956-65, first in the Army band and then in Army Intelligence Service and was discharged as a Sergeant.  He married the love of his life Joan D. (Farabee) Young on January 4, 1959 at the old United Methodist Church in North Platte and to this union 2 sons and 2 daughters were born.  Following his discharge from the military Deloyt served as a police officer for 6 months with the North Platte Police Department.  He then began an over 30-year career with the Union Pacific Railroad working as a special agent, yard master, and retiring as a manager of yard operations in 1997.  He was baptized as a Christian in the Presbyterian church.  Deloyt had a long history of volunteering and service to the North Platte community.  He served Masonic organizations as a past master of the Blue Lodge, past patron and grand patron of the Eastern Star, and past president Shrine.  He volunteered on the NE state board AARP, was past president of the UP-employee club, Nebraskaland days board member, board of the Golden Spike, Eagles Club, American Legion Club (60 years), VFW and RSVP clubs.  He received the Admiral Award in the NE Navy.  Deloyt enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.

Those left to cherish Deloyt’s memory are his wife of 63 years Joan; children, Steve (Deb) Young of Omaha, Ronda (Rick) Lewis of Ashland, Denise Wagner of North Platte, Kevin (Shelly) Young of Hershey; grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Fults, Andrew (Christy) Young, Hunter Young, Michelle (Jeremy) Weigel, Amy (Matt) McMurtry, Mandy Williams, Jennifer (Mike) Powell, Brooke (Marc) Moorhead, Sierra Young, Jenna (Kamron) Hubbard, and Sage Young; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Erceil (Pat) Young of Fremont; sister, Rita Anderson of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Geraldine; son-in-law, Mark Wagner; great-grandson, Dylan; and infant brother, Vernon Young.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Delp officiating.  Burial with military honors and Masonic rites will follow at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell.  Visitation will be on Sunday, June 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.  Eastern Star rites will be at 5:00 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Shrine Club transportation fund or to the Golden Spike.
