
Wilma Mae Hackney, 86 of North Platte passed away December 4, 2022 at Great Plains Health.
Wilma was born on March 21, 1936 in Palisade, Colorado to Fred and Tina Donahoo Hollopeter. She grew up in Cherry County, moving to Omaha at the age of 19 where she attended secretarial school, and later on, beauty school. Wilma worked as a beautician.
She was united in marriage to William Hackney November 17, 1957. The couple made their home in Omaha and later moved to Wood Lake, near Ainsworth. Bill and Wilma went to Bible College in Florida and went on Village Missions, serving churches without pastors. After retiring, they moved to North Platte to be closer to family. Wilma worked at Great Plains where the couple began their foster care life, taking care of 40 children through the years. Many of the kids they fostered stayed in touch and will forever be touched by the care of the Hackneys.
Wilma was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting, and taking care of her home.
Survivors include her sons, William Fred Hackney of North Platte and Chris (Mackenzie) Anderson of Omaha; daughters, Stephanie (Jesse) Sutphin of North Platte and Linda Holmes of Syracuse, Kansas; grandsons, Austin F. Hackney and Cody M. Hackney both of Kearney; grandchildren, Rawlins and Harlin Anderson, Jayna and Owen Sutphin, and Darrin Holmes; sister-in-law, Mary Hollopeter of North Platte; special friends, Jim and Roquelle Kemp; many other family members, children, and friends.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; and brothers, Jack Hollopeter and Willard Hollopeter.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Reverend John Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
