Kristopher Weitzel was sentenced this week in Lincoln County District Court on charges of third-degree domestic assault and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person. He previously pleaded no contest as part of a plea agreement that led to the dismissal of additional charges, including assault by strangulation and false imprisonment.

According to court records, the case began in April 2023, when officers responded after Weitzel was reportedly seen firing a shotgun. The incident resulted in an hours-long standoff with law enforcement before he was taken into custody.

Records show that in May 2023, a woman posted bail for Weitzel. Days later, he allegedly assaulted her and held her in a bedroom for three days.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and North Platte Police Department were involved in the investigation.
