Carl Daniel Crouse (Dan), 85, of Hyannis, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Indian Hills Manor.

Dan was born on January 9, 1941, in North Loup, Nebraska to Philip and Lenore (Van Horn) Crouse. His early years were spent in the sandhills before the family moved to Arthur where he graduated from Arthur County High School in 1959. On May 18, 1974, Dan married Linda Joyce Pincheon. The couple lived in Arthur until 1995 when they retired to the ranch between Arthur and Hyannis. They had one son, Brian. Dan wore many hats in his life, most given for free. Dan took over Crouse Well Service in 1960 and grew the business through the years, selling it in 1997. He and Linda owned a water supply service for a plot of homes on the north side of Lake Mac. He was a member of the Army National Guard until 1973, reaching the rank of Captain. When his feet weren’t on the ground, he was in the clouds flying in his plane checking pastures for ranchers and scouting out what repairs were needed for windmills. Community was important to Dan, whether gathering at the feedstore for stories and coffee to anywhere offering a free lunch, especially a cheeseburger. He was on the school boards in both Arthur and Hyannis, a member of the Arthur Fire Department, a Deacon of the Arthur Baptist Church, a Troop Leader for Boy Scouts, and helped transport kids to ranch camps and church camps during many summers. He will be remembered as a gentle and helpful man who was curious about other people. He enjoyed being outside, laying in the grass and watching the clouds and took naps as seriously as he took work.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Ben Crouse, two sisters Florence Crouse, and Lois Dunwoody. Survivors include his wife Linda Crouse of Hyannis, son Brian (Tiffany) Crouse of Hyannis; grandchildren Aisling Crouse and Charles Crouse.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Arthur Veterans Hall with Dr. Tim Knott and Dr. Mathew Wright officiating.
