Doyle McDougal of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away at home surrounded by his family on August 9, 2024, at age 77.
Doyle, the son of Lyndon and Kathryn McDougal, was born September 16, 1946, in Colby, Kansas. He grew up working with his older brother and dad on the family farm in Atwood, Kansas. Doyle later graduated from Goodland, Kansas Vo-Tech as an auto body technician.
In February of 1968, Doyle was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge he returned to Kansas where he owned Doyle's Body Shop in Atwood for a few years.
On November 30, 1985, Doyle married Imogene Long in Atwood, KS. They became a family with Imogene's son, Marshall Siruta, then were blessed with a daughter, Sheila. The family lived in Atwood before moving to Lexington where Doyle worked for Tenneco in Cozad until the plant closed.
Their retirement years were spent in Valentine, then North Platte to be close to their daughter and her family. Doyle was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed working on cars, going camping, and spoiling his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene; his parents, Lyndon and Kathryn McDougal; and brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Deanna McDougal.
Doyle is survived by his daughter, Sheila Newland (Jeffrey) of North Platte; stepson, Marshall Siruta of Goodland, KS; grandsons, Nicholas, Nathan, Carter and Caleb Newland; step-granddaughters, Megan Unger (Mitch) of Oberlin, KS, and Jordan Doetker of Culbertson; his sisters, Lynda Wendelin (Lawrence) of Gothenburg and Eunice Dillinger (Don) of Ellis, KS; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 14. Rosary beginning at 11 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Burial with military honors to follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.
