Keith W. Matthews, life-long resident of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024 at the age of 94 years old at Linden Court.
Mr. Matthews was born on January 1, 1930 in North Platte, NE. He was the son of Charles and Carrie (Lindenmuth) Matthews.
Keith graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1948. On August 15, 1948 he was married to his high school sweetheart Donna Jean Wagner, and together they had one son, Larry. He spent his entire career working with the Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 1992 as a conductor. Keith and Donna enjoyed square dancing and ballroom dancing as well as traveling nationally and internationally following his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Master Mason, Eagles Club, and a life-member of the UP United Oldtimers Club. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and carpentry. Keith loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Carrie Matthews; in laws, Walter and Lois Wagner; his wife of 72 years, Donna; siblings, Katherine (Howard) Weekly, Harold (Dolly) Matthews, Cora Belle Howe, Thomas Leo (Pauline) Matthews, twin brother, Kenneth Matthews; and infant sisters, Sarah Matthews and Lucille Matthews.
He is survived by son, Larry Matthews of The Villages, FL; sister-in-law, Cheryl Matthews of North Platte; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at North Platte City Cemetery. Visitation and book signing will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9th and Wednesday, January 10th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
