LaMetta Seevers Grayek Hampton (1931-2022)

LaMetta Marie (Grayek) Hampton passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, in Lexington, Nebraska at the age of 91 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She passed away in peace and in little pain.

LaMetta Seevers was born on October 26, 1931, to Robert (Bus) Milton Seevers Jr. and Gladyce Hazel Seevers in their home in Ortello Valley. Ortello Valley was northwest of the current city of Merna, Nebraska. She was born in the same room as her daddy was born. Dr. John Morrow delivered her to this world. Her parents moved the family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and then back to Nebraska where she lived most of her life.
LaMetta married Raymond Louis Grayek on August 24, 1950, in Oconto at St. Mary's Catholic Church by Father Wachtrle. The marriage bestowed 7 children on the union: Phillyis (Craig) Welliver, Nancy (James) Hollingsworth, Cynthia "Raylene" (Robert) Brinkmeyer, Allan, Brian (Christine Greyson), Virginia (Logan Emery) Maring, and Kendra (Gary) Hampton. The family moved to Carna, Washington in 1960, then back to Nebraska in 1966.

LaMetta married Harvey Hampton on September 21, 1985. She was best remembered for her 18 years of service at the local Walmart in Lexington. She is well remembered for wanting to learn everybody's name, and their children's that walked through the door so she could greet them by name next time. Harvey Hampton passed away on September 11, 2009.

She was predeceased by all her immediate family; her parents (Robert "Bus" Milton Seever, Gladyce Hazel Wolverton/Seevers), her sisters; Winona "Noni" (Bill Robb), Roberta "Bert" (Roger Bice), Bonnie (Robert "Bob" Cochrane). Also predeceased in death by son-in-laws; Paul Refior, George "Tuck" Refior, Logan Emery Maring, and her great-grandson, Logan Admiral Maring.

LaMetta is survived by all her 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad Bible Church in Cozad, Nebraska with Paston J.C. Calhoun officiating.  Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska.
