A North Platte man was arrested on suspicion of numerous charges following a hit-and-run accident that happened late last year.

According to North Platte police, on December 13, 2020, at 8:27 p.m., officers responded to a hit and run property damage accident in the 1900 Block of West 15th. Police say reports indicated the suspect vehicle was a small silver-colored car.

Police say as officers responded to the scene, they discovered a small silver car with heavy front end damage in the area of 14th Street and Madison Avenue. The vehicle appeared disabled and a lone male occupant was observed.

Police say officers made contact with the driver, identified as 30-year-old Anthony Cox. Cox indicated he suffered a medical episode which caused the accident.

According to police, officers observed indicators that Cox may have been under the influence at the time of the accident. Officers had EMS respond and Cox was transported by ambulance to Great Plains Health for medical observation.

Police say a sample of Cox's blood was retrieved and sent to the NSP Crime Lab for testing.

On February 1, 2021, officers received the lab results which confirmed that Cox did have narcotics in his system at the time of the accident and probable cause was established to arrest Cox for the incident.

On February 14, 2021, officers had contact with Cox in the 400 Block of South Bailey Avenue and placed him under arrest.

Cox was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, and leaving the scene of an accident.
