Loren Larington of McCook, Nebraska passed away September 23, 2023 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska. He was 90 years old.
Loren Wayne Larington was born August 14, 1933 near Cedar Bluffs, in Decatur County, Kansas to DeVere Emery and Doris Irene (McKillip) Larington. He was the third of nine children born to this union. After spending his first years of childhood in the Traer, Kansas area living in a sod house, the family moved to the Box Elder community north of McCook. Loren attended rural Brunt Hills school in Frontier County for his elementary education and graduated from Red Willow High School east of McCook in 1953. In high school, he participated in football and track and as a senior he drove the school bus.
Loren was drafted into the Army of the United States in 1956 serving until 1958. He served in Korea for 13 months as PFC foot soldier squad leader, with his final rank being SP3. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Loren then served two years in the Army Reserves reporting to Fort Lewis, Washington.
On January 16, 1960, Loren was united in marriage to Iva Mae Echelberger in McCook. To this union, four children were born: Deborah Kay, David Wayne, Daniel James, and Andrea Irene.
Loren spent his life farming and ranching north of McCook in Frontier County. In later years, he enjoyed driving to town to have a cup of coffee and a good visit with friends. His love for the soil led him to take up gardening in his retirement years.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Nile Lewis Larington and DeVere Emery Larington, Jr.; and sisters Nadene Roeene Frank, Jeannette June Henning, Ardis Mae Roche, and Delores Jane Howell.
Survivors include daughters Deborah (Robert) Rose of Grand Island and Andrea (Mike) Castor of North Platte; sons, David (Maria) Larington of Las Vegas, NV and Daniel (Michelle) Larington of McCook; grandchildren, Tosha Gott of Hastings, Tim (DeEtta) Rose of Central City, Alicia Castor and James Burke North Platte, Sara (Jack) Loomis of Hayes Center, Dane (Abby) Larington of McCook, and James Fonteboa of Las Vegas, NV. Loren is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren Jaiden, Colin, Benicio, Jesse, Ryker, Elliott, Damon, Emily, and Kayla.
Loren is survived by siblings; Dale Lynn (Terry) Larington of Ogallala and Linda Kay Eppinger of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
