
Harry Eugene Hixson passed away on April 3, 2021 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Nebraska at the age of 86. He was born on January 8, 1935 at Jonesborough, Tennessee, the son of Sidney McCoy Hixson and Grace Evelyn (McCracken) Hixson. His mother passed away when he was born, and Harry was raised by his grandfather, AJ Hixson and aunt, Anna Lee Hixson, who he called mom.
He attended school in Jonesborough. Harry served in the Tennessee National Guard before joining the United States Air Force in 1954, he was honorably discharged in 1960. While in the Air Force, he met and married his wife, Barbara A. Jones. On October 4th, 2020, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Harry owned and operated Hixson General Construction for 35 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the VFW. Harry loved to fish, hunt, and bowled for many years. He was an avid Husker and Denver Bronco fan. He also raised a large garden every year and loved his time spent at the trailer at Lake McConaughy in Ogallala, Nebraska.
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmom, Minnie; wife, Barbara; daughter, Catherin A. Myers; grandson, Angus Myers; brothers, Clarence Hixson, Howard Hixson, and Roy Hixson; sisters, Geneva Hixson and Jewell Hixson.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra Kay (Gerald) Maris of Culbertson, Nebraska, Peggy J. Savage of Omaha, Nebraska, and Linda L. Koetter of McCook; son-in-law, Arden Myers of McCook; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Loretta Kinley of Jonesborough, Tennessee; Margaret Manchey of Johnson City, Tennessee; Betty Daniels of Jonesborough, Tennessee; and Janice Hollard of Ashville, North Carolina; brothers, Kenneth Hixson of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Sidney Hixson of Unicoi, Tennessee; Tony Hixson Johnson City, Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry chose cremation and a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to family for future designation. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.
