
Roy Charles Phillips of North Platte passed away at Great Plains Health
on July 9, 2023, at the age of 83.
Roy was born in Glenrock, WY, to George and Ione Phillips on June 9,
1940. He grew up in Cheyenne where he graduated from Cheyenne Central High School then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1959 to 1963. He returned home following his discharge and hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad, working in the store department before becoming an electrician. Roy relocated to North Platte with the railroad in 1971 and continued working for 39 years until retiring.
On May 15, 1965, Roy married Karen Swearingen in Cheyenne. The couple was blessed with 58 years of marriage and three children, Lorie, Steve and Cory.
Roy was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Platte Valley Lodge #32
where he received his 50 year pin, York Rite and Eastern Star Signet
Chapter #55 where he also served as Worthy Patron.
Roy loved his family and enjoyed fishing and Nebraska football.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Albert Gonsior.
Survivors include Roy's wife, Karen; children, Lorie (Marty) Skinner of
Ft. Worth, TX, Steve Phillips of St. Petersburg, FL, and Cory (Becky)
Phillips of North Platte; his siblings, Ed (Wanda) Phillips and Joan
Gonsior of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Dustin (Silvia) Skinner, Lindsay
(Caleb) Ward, Erica Skinner, Zackary Phillips, Bryson Phillips and
Conner Phillips; great-granddaughters, Joyce and Mia; as well as other
family.
Memorial Service with Eastern Star Rites will be 11 a.m. on Friday, July
14, 2023, at Odean Colonial Chapel. Inurnment with Military Honors and
Masonic Rites will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Online
