Douglas (Doug) Wayne Wilson (82) of Arthur County, passed away Saturday, October 18th, 2025, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, Nebraska. Doug was born January 10th, 1943, in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Walter and Phyllis (Bader) Wilson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala. Doug lived in southwestern Arthur County, on the ranch that his parents and grandparents homesteaded. Doug attended district 19 grade school, about a mile from their home. He graduated Arthur County High School in 1961, and attended UNL one year. During his second year of college his father suffered a broken back and Doug returned home to work. He was in the Army National Guard for 2 years.
Doug married Susan Sizer July 1, 1968 at Ogallala, Nebraska. To this union were born 3 children: Jennifer, Mark, and Michael. Doug ranched with his father and sons. He also owned and operated his own truck for over 50 years - primarily hauling grain and some cattle. Doug also transported mail from Ogallala to Omaha or Denver for 2 years. He drove 2 million miles accident free. Doug served on the Keith/Arthur County extension board, the Ogallala Community Hospital Board, and the Martin Bay Community Church board. Along with that, he was also a brand inspector, and he also did lots of custom haying.
Doug was proceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Phyllis, and hired man Arthur Lockhart who worked with the family for over 50 years.
He is survived by Wife Susan; his children: Jennifer (Tony) Evans of North Platte, Mark (Sandi) Wilson of Arthur, Michael (Kim) Wilson of Arthur; Grandchildren: Haley (Brad) Adkisson, Jacob (Daisy Garcia) Parker, Emily (Kris) Boardman, Sheridan and Audrey Wilson, Michael (Houstyn) Buitron, Isaac (Aleksi Polonis) Buitron, Jaedin, and Nora Wilson. Doug was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren. He was also survived by his brother, Richard Wilson of Chandler, Arizona, along with in-laws, David Sizer, Marjorie (Dale) Leistritz, John (Linda) Sizer, Kathryn (Henry) Sizer-Vedder and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Saturday October 25th, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the veterans hall in Arthur with Dr. Mathew Wright officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 1-6 pm with the family greeting friends from 4:00 til 6:00 pm at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel.
A memorial has been established to the Arthur Hospitality Committee
Interment will be in the Arthur Cemetery.
