George Lee Wurm was born in Herndon, Kansas on August 17, 1940 to Lawrence George and Martha Elizabeth (Schrammel) Wurm. He attended school in Herndon and graduated from Herndon High School on May 21, 1958. George joined the United States Army in October of 1960. He was a member of the Green Berets and was honorably discharged in September of 1964.
On June 2, 1966, George was united in marriage to Ronda Oliver in Denver, Colorado. The couple made McCook their home and soon welcomed their four daughters. George worked as a Master Drywaller in McCook and the surrounding communities for over fifty years.
George was a proud father and grandfather. He was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church and was a man of strong faith.
George was surrounded by his family when he passed away at his home in McCook on Monday evening, October 23, 2023. He was 83 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Shannon Pierce and Clayton Pierson; brothers, Lawrence and Dale Wurm; and a sister, Wyneman Cox.
Those left to carry on his memory are his wife of 57 years, Ronda of McCook; daughters: Patricia (Bob) Eilenberger of Donna, Texas, Pamela (Jim) Hungerford of Austin, Texas, Kimberly Pinkerton of McCook, and Kelli (Scott) Carlson of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren: Whitney (Isaac) Weyeneth, Chase (Mariah) Pierson, Kinsley (Corban) Giehle, Neal (Kelsey) Pierce, Terri (Logan) Mills, Taylor (Logan) Farrimond, Ciera Carlson, Kaylee Carlson, and Ashlyn Carlson; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Micah, David, Hannah, Hadassah, Sophia, Emma, Maddyn, Declan, Avery, and Teagan; as well as his sisters, Rosa Boehmn and Susan McKain.
Visitation will be held from 2-5PM on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30AM on Monday morning, October 30, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook will follow services.
