On November 24, 2023, Joseph “Joe” Wayne Dodson, aged 53, passed away as a result of an automobile accident near Gothenburg.  The son of Walter William and Norma Marie (Curtis) Dodson, he was born in North Platte on March 19, 1970.

Upon graduating from North Platte High School in 1988, Joe worked a variety of jobs in the construction industry. His love of construction started in early childhood under the guidance of his father and uncles.  His career path led him to be an independent Master Craftsman specializing in painting and carpentry.

Joe was a kind and genuine man; he often helped folks within the community by mowing their lawns in the summer and removing snow in the winter.  In 2005, Joe spent time in Louisiana aiding in the rebuild of communities after Hurricane Katrina.  He was a happy-go-lucky man, always smiling and trying to make those around him laugh with his jokes, light hearted teasing, and his special knack of storytelling.  A phrase he said often, “don’t sweat the small stuff” was the motto he lived by. Joe had an inviting personality to all those he met.  Friends state “Everyone loved Joe and he loved back equally.”

Among the hobbies Joe held, he was most passionate about fishing.  It was not just a summer event, but an all year round event.  At the young age of ten years old, he received a master angler award for a 22 ½” walleye, weighing 12lbs and 4 oz.  Joe also enjoyed pheasant hunting, stamp collecting, and jigsaw puzzles.  To his core, he was an outdoorsman and always a faithful follower of the Nebraska Huskers.

Those that will cherish Joe’s memory are his daughter, Shala (Ben) Raska of North Platte; siblings, Mary (Bill) Kranz of Wayne, NE, Cynthia (Vince) Vento of Tucson, AZ, Jerome Dodson of North Platte, and Vicky (Peter) Crawford of Montezuma, IA; aunts, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents; Walter and Norma; and a sister, Kathryn Dodson.
