NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-The death of a North Platte man whose body was found in an area canal in June has been ruled a homicide.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), deputies received a report of a body floating in the Nebraska Public Power District canal just to the west of Wagon Trail Road between Hershey and North Platte on June 8, 2020.
Rescue workers along with the Lincoln County Dive Team and North Platte Fire and Rescue recovered the body of 68-year-old Nicholas Legas. Legas' vehicle was recovered several miles upstream near Hershey/Dickens Road.
On November 23, LCSO said a forensic pathologist in Gibbon has ruled Legas' death a homicide.
Investigators say Legas died of blunt force trauma and strangulation.
