John Scott Gibson, age 79, Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on May 31, 2024, at the Community Hospital in McCook, NE.
John was born on March 1, 1945, to John and Dorothy (Kelley) Gibson in Scottsbluff, NE. John attended school in McCook, NE.
On June 17, 1963, John joined the Marine Corps and proudly served our country until 1966, serving two terms in Vietnam.
On August 23, 1965, John married Collen L. Fisher. To this union their daughter, Shelley, was born.
John married Judy Ann Gebauer on August 9, 1974, together they raised their two sons Rick and Curtis in Fort Morgan, CO, where John resided until Judy’s death in 2021.
John entered the oil field business shortly after returning from Vietnam working his way up from entry level field work to ownership of oil field related businesses, and eventually participating in oil wells and mineral ownership.
John enjoyed traveling to various places but even more so when he was able to take family and friends alongside. Mexico will forever have a special place in the hearts of John’s family and friends.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, racing cars, collecting and hunting arrowheads, and collecting guns and coins.
John will always be remembered for his generosity. He had a very big heart and was always willing to help those in need. From serving in the military, donating to multiple charities, to helping his friends and family.
John was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; and his wife, Judy.
Survivors include his children, Shelly (Terry) Hoffmaster of McCook, NE, Rick (Therese) Gibson of Brush, CO, and Curtis Gibson of Mineral Wells, TX; brother, Jerry (Pam) Gibson of Manteca, CA; grandchildren, Candice Martin, Michell (Brandon) Hughes, Amber (Nate) Priddy, Katie Hoffmaster (Matt), Kelsey Plank, and Tyler Gibson; great-grandchildren, Payton, Asher, Jolie, Harlow, Cannon, Emersyn, Hayden, Malina, Gianna, Audrianna, and Grajeda; and lots of extended family and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in John’s name to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY, 10306.
