Monte G. Kiffin, 84 of Redington Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Oxford, Mississippi.

Monte Kiffin, the small town kid from Lexington, Nebraska went on to become one of the most influential defensive coaches in NFL history. Kiffin began his career in 1966, at the University of Nebraska where they won two National Championships during his time there. He quickly became one of the most respected defensive minds in football history, working with numerous teams but, most notably, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; where he was considered the mastermind of the “Tampa Two” defense that helped lead them to their first Super Bowl championship in 2002.  He was inducted into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor in 2021 and  just last month, he was awarded the Pro Football Hall of Fame Award of Excellence for his outstanding work in the league.

In high school, Kiffin was one of the best athletes in the state, winning Nebraska Athlete of the Year in 1958.

Monte’s legacy transcends statistics and championships; it lives on in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His enthusiasm and passion was contagious, his genuine kindness made everyone feel special and strangers feel like friends.  To his family, not only was he the best father and “Pops” he was their hero, mentor, encourager and unconditional supporter.

Survivors include his wife, Robin, his three children Heidi, Lane and Chris (Angela); eight grandchildren, Preston, Landry, Presley, Knox, Grace, Taylor, Christian, Bella, as well as his sister Ann Murphy, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, if inclined, the family has created a charitable foundation in which to donate. More information provided in the link below.
