North Platte police offer winter weather safety tips ahead of storm

With the upcoming weather forecasted for our area, the North Platte Police Department would like to remind you of some winter weather safety tips. This weekend’s forecast is predicting 6-8” of additional snow and wind chill values are expected to be as low as -35 degrees. At these temperatures, frostbite can occur in little as 10 minutes, on exposed skin. Please read the following tips to keep you and your family safe during this winter storm.

  1. If you must be outside, wear layers of warm clothing
  1. Bring your pets inside or ensure they have proper shelter to keep them warm and out of the elements.
  1. Have plenty of food and water on hand
  2. Remove your vehicles from the Snow Emergency Routes. This assists city workers with snow removal and allows easier travel for emergency personnel.
  1. Check on any elderly neighbors or family members
  1. Have a plan if the power goes out
  1. Do not leave your vehicle running unattended to warm up, as vehicle thefts can happen very quickly.
