
Archie Lawrence Aman, age 86, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his home in McCook, Nebraska. Aman was born in Lowry, South Dakota to Alice Tews and Albert Aman on November 7, 1934. He grew up in Java, South Dakota and graduated from Java High School in 1952.
He served in the United States Army from June of 1957 to May 1959. He transferred to the United States Army Reserves until 1963. In May of 1963, he was honorably discharged. He received a commendation as a Sharpshooter (rifle) and the Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge, Aman returned to his home state of South Dakota to work at the Homestake Mine in Lead, SD.
In 1968 he relocated to Loveland, Colorado where he worked for Samsonite Lego Factory. In 1971 he went to work for Eastman Kodak in Windsor, CO. He married Betty Norton on June 29, 1971 in Greece, NY after receiving job training at the Eastman Kodak plant in Rochester, NY. The couple was active in their church in Loveland, CO and raising three girls. After working for Kodak for over 20 years, Archie retired from Kodak and became a Tour Bus driver. This job allowed him to travel and meet new people. Betty went along when she could. Driving for a Tour Bus Company led to a bus job at CSU where he drove an athletic bus. He retired from CSU at the age of 75.
In February of 2013, Archie moved to McCook, Nebraska to be closer to family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Delon; a brother, Delbert; wife, Betty; brothers-in-law, Jack Speck, Jack Norton, and Arthur Norton; and a great- grandson, Jasper.
Survivors include sisters; Betty Speck of California, LaJean (Alfred) Loethen of California, Karen (Harvey) Bonen of South Dakota, JoEllen (Ed) Zerr of California; daughters: Terri Brown of Colby, Kansas, Cindi (Kyle) Grafel of Herndon, Kansas, and Lorri (Kent) Grafel of Culbertson, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon, February 19, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. (CT), Saturday morning, February 20, 2021 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Craig Schmitz officiating. In honor of his grandchildren who are health care workers, and for respect to others, we ask that masks be worn at the service and visitation. A graveside service with military honors will be held in Loveland, CO at a later date.
