Herbert William Ringenberg, 94, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away at his home on June 20, 2024.
He was born during a snowstorm on the family farm south of Eustis, Nebraska on May 14, 1930, to William and Olga (Werth) Ringenberg. He was the younger brother of Willard and Aurella. He attended grade school at the Salem Lutheran School, south of Eustis, as well as the Trinity Lutheran Church school, and graduated from Lexington Senior High School with the class of 1948, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He was drafted to the military during the Korean War from 1953 to 1954.
Herbert met Evelyn Brakhage, a teacher in Lexington, and the two were united in marriage on June 29, 1952, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Four children were born to this union: Jean, Jan, Suzanne, and Joel. Herbert and Evelyn shared 71 years of marriage. Herbert farmed and ranched in Dawson and Custer County his entire life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Ringenberg of Lexington; children, Jean (Doug) Speer of Windsor, Colorado, Jan (Stephen) Anderson of Lexington, Suzy (Neil) Jorgenson of Callaway, and Joel (Stephanie) Ringenberg of Lexington; sister-in-law, Dorothy Jean Buel of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as extended family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willard and wife, Emma Ringenberg; sister, Aurella and husband, Gilbert Heine; sister-in-law, Donna and husband, Louie Rudman; brother-in-law, James Buel, and many good friends and neighbors.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating. The service will be live streamed via the Trinity Lutheran Website: tlclex.org.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
A private Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
