Pamela Ann Slack, 81, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 5, 2024 in Kearney, NE.
Pamela Ann Nelson Slack was born June 20, 1943 in Callaway, NE to Elvin A and Eleanor D Helberg Nelson.
In 1947, the family moved to Tallin Table and Pam attended Tallin School until the 3rd grade. In 1952, the family moved to Gothenburg. Pam graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1961.
During high school, Pam worked at Powers Bakery where she met her future husband, Ray Slack. Ray and Pam were married on August 6, 1961. A son Elvin joined the family on March 14, 1963.
During her senior year of high school she started working for First State Bank. She and Ray also owned and operated the Gothenburg Bakery from 1963 to 1970. Pam semi-retired from First State Bank in June of 2013. She continued to work part time over the next few years.
She was very active in the community; serving on the Gothenburg Planning and Zoning (served as the chair for numerous years), Chamber of Commerce - including president for a year, Gothenburg Public School Foundation (treasure), Pony Express Foundation (treasure), and Financial Women International (serving as group president, state president and on the national board.) She was very active serving her Lord at the Evangelical Free Church on various committees. She also served on the Gothenburg Senior Center Board and the Historical Museum Board.
The loves of her life were her husband, son and granddaughter Sadie. Ray passed away in August of 2014. She loved to travel and after retirement she went often to see Elvin and Sadie. She loved her bank family where she worked for over 48 years. They were a second family to her and were always there to support her thru the years.
She is survived by her son Elvin of Cozad; granddaughter Sadie Slack of Nashville; Sadie's mother Sarah Vaughn-Rohrbough of Nashville; niece Lori (Lee) Mattingly of Gig Harborm, WA; Lincoln Nelson of CO; and special friends, Aaron, Sara, Caleb, Luke and Titus Coleman.
Preceding her death were her parents, husband and brother Rand E. Nelson.
Services will be held at Cornerstone Bible Church, September 20, 2024 at 10:00 am with Pastor Scott Newman and Ann Sukraw-Lutz officiating.
Interment will follow in Fort McPherson.
Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Senior Center, Cornerstone Bible Church, Gothenburg Historical Museum.
