
BINGHAM, Neb. — A BNSF train was nearly completely derailed Sunday evening after being struck by a giant wedge tornado near Highway 2, just east of Bingham.
Nebraska State Patrol troopers responded to the scene and worked to keep the public safe from downed power lines. Panhandle Rural Electric Membership Association crews worked to restore power in the area.
No injuries were immediately reported.
A BNSF spokesperson told Panhandle Post, "Cleanup operations are currently underway, and we anticipate reopening one track by midmorning on Monday. "
