
Richard Lee Morrell, 94, of North Platte, passed away December 8, 2021 at Linden Court. He was born June 22, 1927 to Thomas E. and Ivy V. (Brown) Morrell in Laird, Colorado.
Richard attended High School in St. Francis, Kansas. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Korea. After his discharge, he returned to St. Francis and worked with his father in a blacksmith shop.
Richard married Charlotte McKee on December 26, 1947 in Rocky Ford, Colorado. They made their home in St. Francis where he worked for the county for a short time before beginning a career with the Army Reserve. He took a promotion with the Army and moved to North Platte. In 1969, they moved to Kansas City, then retired and returned to North Platte in 1987.
Richard was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Post 163 and an Admiral in the Great Navy of Nebraska. He enjoyed gardening, camping, and woodworking.
Survivors include sons, Richard (Larea) Morrell of North Platte, Thomas (Margaret) Morrell of Bonner Springs, KS; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; daughter-in-law, Sue Morrell of Brandon, SD; sister, Margaret (Laurel) Thompson of West Plains, MO; numerous other family members and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ivy; wife, Charlotte; son Russell (Sue) Morrell; brothers, Edward “Bud” Morrell, Robert Morrell, Phillip Morrell; sisters, Ruby Case, Dorothy Whomble; great grandson, Tucker Sutton.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at First Christian Church with Pastor Jean Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be held noon-7:00 P.M., with family present 5:00-7:00, Monday, December 13, 2021 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. The service will be livestreamed via the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those unable to attend.
