North Platte Man Charged with Arson After Fire Causes Property Damage

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A North Platte man is facing a felony charge after authorities say he intentionally started a fire that caused significant property damage over the weekend.

Daniel Armstrong, 19, has been charged in Lincoln County Court with third-degree arson in connection to a fire that broke out Saturday in the 2800 block of West 19th Street.

According to court documents, a North Platte Police investigator determined Armstrong used a lighter to ignite a pile of grass. During a police interview, Armstrong reportedly admitted to setting the fire and said he believed it had been extinguished before it reignited.

The fire resulted in an estimated $1,500 in damage, destroying a chicken coop, a shed, a power pole, a transformer, as well as power and cable lines, according to an arrest affidavit.

The case remains under investigation.
