North Platte police diffused a situation at Lincoln Elementary School without incident on Wednesday.

According to police, on October 14, North Platte Police responded to Lincoln Elementary School after receiving a report from school administration about an unwanted person.

Investigator John Deal says upon arrival, an officer learned the unwanted person was a parent that no longer had custody of their child who was a student at the school.

Investigator Deal says the officer requested the parent to leave school property. The parent left the property once requested by police without incident.

A message to parents from Principal DaNesa Fleck said, "At approximately 2:50 p.m. a parent arrived at our school that was not allowed to have custody of their child. Law enforcement was notified and the situation was resolved around 3:15 p.m. To ensure the safety of our students, the school was placed in lockout and all students were dismissed through the front entrance."

Mrs. Fleck says because the event occurred at the end of the day, additional safety protocols were put in place for dismissal, including an increased law enforcement presence.
