
Nita Joyce Wolters, age 93, of McCook, Nebraska passed away at her home on September 13, 2020. She was born in Atwood, Kansas on September 20, 1926 to Leo Bernard and Nellie Florence (Dunn) Bowles. Joyce grew up in Atwood and graduated from Atwood High School in 1944.
On April 24, 1949 she was united in marriage to Frederick Kastens Wolters in Atwood, Kansas. To this union, 3 children were born: Marilyn, Gary and Roger. Frederick preceded her in death on March 22, 1995. The couple farmed south of Trenton, Nebraska before moving into Trenton in 1961. In 1961, Joyce began working for the United States Postal Service as a clerk. She worked in Stratton, Trenton and Culbertson in Nebraska. In 1979, she moved to McCook, Nebraska where she continued to work for USPS until she retired in 1986.
Joyce was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church. She was a fabulous cook and baker, known for many special "Joyce" recipes. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for her daughter and grandchildren. She was an avid garage sale and estate auction attendee. Joyce enjoyed her flower gardens. She was the owner of the Merle Norman Cosmetic store in McCook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frederick; daughter Marilyn Wolters; brother Bernard "Bud" Bowles and his wife, Jerry; and a sister Joann Mann and her husband, Bob.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Roger Wolters of McCook and Gary (Jeniffer) Wolters of Oberlin, Kansas; five grandchildren: Kelsie Wolters, Desiree Nessline, Shelby (Tanner) Hardy, Danyel (Clint) Krizek, and Erin Basnett; six great grandchildren: Eli Hardy, Kenna Hardy, Blake Krizek, Donald Basnett, Kaden Nessline, and Keehgan Nessline; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood, Kansas on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 with Jim Jones officiating. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be addressed to the McCook Humane Society in McCook, Nebraska in Joyce's name.
