NPCC Softball’s Morganne Brown earns postseason honor

North Platte Community College softball player Morganne Brown has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Midwest Region Second Team.

Recognition is based on both classroom and field performance. Brown, of Milliken, Colo., is now eligible for selection to a 2021 NFCA Division II All-America squad.

“Morganne is one of those athletes you wish you could keep for four years and duplicate her work ethic on and off the field, team first mindset and commitment to our program,” said NPCC head women’s softball coach Janelle Higgins. “She definitely left her footprint on the program for years to come. Being named to the Second Team is huge as it is voted on by all the other coaches in the Midwest Region – Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa and Montana just to name some. That mean’s she’s going up against all those athletes, too.”

Brown has a .276 BA with 27 walks. She was named to the All-Region IX Tournament Team in May and also qualified for a spot on the college’s President List.

“Having the opportunity to receive this type of recognition not only is a huge honor for me, but it also allows me to show how hard Coach [Higgins] pushed me to be my best and how great of a coach she is,” Brown said. “Without her, this opportunity wouldn’t have been possible. I never thought having a chance to be on the Midwest Region Second Team would be possible, but it just shows that hard work pays off in the end, and I wouldn’t have wanted to hang my cleats up in any other way.”
