A North Platte man has been accused of attempted murder following an alleged attempted knife attack.
According to North Platte police, on November 21, at 9:01 p.m., officers responded to the 300 Block of North Custer for a disturbance. It was reported that two males were fighting in the street and that one was armed with a knife.
Police say upon arrival, officers located the two males still struggling in the street and observed a large knife lying nearby.
The males were separated and one of the males was identified as 27-year-old Jesse Juarez.
According to police, officers spoke with the victim, who stated the incident began at a residence in the 2000 Block of West 3rd. The victim indicated Juarez had been acting off and told other people in the household they needed to leave the residence. The victim said that once everyone left the residence, he and Juarez were alone and sitting on the couch.
Police say the victim said that Juarez then stood up and pulled out a large hunting style knife and lunged toward the victim. The victim said he was able to deflect the knife away but suffered a minor injury to the hand and chest.
The victim reported that during this attack Juarez made comments to the victim that he had to kill him, according to police. The victim was able to flee from the house and down the street, where Juarez continued to chase him. Juarez caught up to the victim in the street, where another altercation occurred and Law Enforcement was called.
Officers were able to corroborate the victim's account of what occurred and Juarez was placed under arrest on suspicion of attempted 1st-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Juarez was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
