Dora Ann "Dodie" Powell (1934-2021)

On Tuesday, June 2, 2021, Dora Ann "Dodie" Posell passed away at the age of 86.

Dodie was born on December 26, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Howard 'Olie' and Vera Adele (Himes) Olson.  Dodie attended high school in Ellinwood, Kansas where she met and married high school sweetheart, Richard Yarmer in 1953.  Together they had two sons, David and Robert, and one daughter, Diane.  Dodie graduated high school from Sacred Heart Catholic Girls School in 1952.

A long-time Texas resident, Dodie moved to Clay Center, Nebraska in 2001 and later to McCook, Nebraska in 2018.  Dodie had a passion for working with her hands, she loved to craft, sew and work puzzles.  She was an accomplished china painter, winning many awards.  Dodie especially enjoyed Jeopardy, NFL Football, and NASCAR races.

She was very active with her women's sorority and Catholic Church.  She also enjoyed spending her time at the Clay Center Senior Center and volunteering with the Heartland Shares program.  She was known for her quick wit, sharp memory, and the grandchildren's beloved candy jar.

Dodie was preceded in death by her father, Howard; her mother, Vera Adele; husband, Richard Yarmer; and second husband, Robert Powell.

She will be missed by her sisters, Nancy (Bill) Nelson and Jane Stephens; her children David (Sue) Power, Diane (Tom) Mattern, and Robert Powell; grandchildren Daniel Mattern, Seth (Linnaea) Mattern, Emily (Luke) Stricker, Stephanie (Eric) White, and Audrea (Rath) Cyrus; and great-grandchildren, Quinn, Calvin, Emma, Hugo, and Stella; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Brian Wirth officiating.  Interment will be in the Ellinwood Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kansas at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 with Father Terrance Klein officiating.  

Memorials may be left in Dora's name at the Herrman Jones Funeral Chapel, 607 Norris Ave, McCook, Nebraska 69001 to be given to Catholic Charities.  Friends may leave onine condolences at herrmannfh.com.  Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
